The main concern was to have a Catholic ceremony for Barb’s family and a Hindu ceremony for Ben’s. “Everything else was easy. We figured it out as we went along,” Barb says. “We decided on the flowers first, something simple— whites and greens. Everything followed that.”

The Bride
Barb’s strapless gown and veil were found at a Wedding Fair dress stand. “I wanted a bustier top with criss-cross tie in the back. It was actually the first dress I tried on and I fell in love with it. I loved that it was two pieces. The top had lace embroidery, and the skirt was a simple A-line, with matching lace embroidery all around the bottom, and a fabulously long train.” Her bouquet featured white roses, dahlias, and green hypericum berries.
Hindu Ceremony
Sweet Beginnings Wedding Consulting & Event Planners did the decor for the Indian ceremony. Barb’s sari was red and gold and that colour theme was carried through in the Indian ceremony.
Reception Decor
The décor of the Marriott Pinnacle ballroom, by Sweet Beginnings, was inspired by nature. “We wanted the ballroom to look outdoorsy and fresh,” says Barb, “so we had trees and branches as centrepieces, and kept to a colour scheme of white, green and brown.” The centrepieces were tall vases filled with water, green apples, curly willow, and cymbidium orchids.
Dessert
nstead of cake, Barb and Ben had the Marriott Pinnacle provide an assortment of tarts, cupcakes, brownies and fruit.
Groom & Groomsmen
Ben and his groomsmen’s Indian outfits were from Sunny’s ID on Main Street in Vancouver. Ben had a hint of red and gold embroidery on his suit to match Barb’s sari. The groomsmen wore all-grey to complement the colours Ben was wearing.
Wedding Favours
The little brown boxes contained wedding favours: buttery peppermints from Hospitality Mints that “just melt in your mouth,” says Barb. “One of our favourite places for steak is Morton’s, and they have the exact same Hospitality Mints.”
The Bridesmaids
The bridesmaids wore yellow dresses from BCBG Max Azria on Robson Street. They featured a sheer woven lace top, V-drop straps, empire waist, and pleated style detail on the bust with decorative sequins. “We went for shorter, bright-coloured dresses to make them fun and flirty,” says Barb. “We wanted dresses that could be used again.”
